What should a new worktop cost?

A typical UK kitchen needs roughly 4–6m² of worktop, which comes to £500–£4,000 supplied and fitted — laminate at the bottom of that range, quartz, granite and porcelain towards the top. Per square metre, laminate runs £60–£200, solid wood £100–£300, granite £180–£550, quartz £250–£650, and porcelain £350–£700.

Slab, thickness, edge profile, cut-outs and joins all move the number — which is why only a quote for your kitchen counts.

Typical UK ranges compiled from published 2026 cost guides. Last reviewed August 2026. Not a quote.

Questions people ask first

Is the visualiser free?

Yes. Upload a photo, try worktops on your kitchen and see the results — free, with no account. If you want to keep going after your free previews you can buy more, but you never have to.

Do I have to sign up?

No. It works straight away in your browser. We only ask for details if you decide you want quotes.

How accurate is the preview?

It's an AI visualisation, not a photograph of the finished job. It's built to show colour, tone, veining and how a finish reads against your units and light. Always order a physical sample before you commit.

What happens after I ask for quotes?

Your request goes to worktop specialists covering your postcode — up to five of them. They contact you directly with prices for the finish you picked. We don't quote and we don't fit.

How much does a new kitchen worktop cost?

A typical UK kitchen needs roughly 4–6m² of worktop, which comes to about £500–£4,000 supplied and fitted. Laminate is the cheapest per m², porcelain the most expensive, with granite and quartz in between.

Can I keep my existing units?

Usually, yes — replacing just the worktop is one of the most common kitchen jobs there is, and it's the single change that most alters how a kitchen looks.

What happens to my kitchen photo?

It's used to make your preview. It isn't published anywhere, and it isn't sold. If you ask for quotes and choose to attach your preview, the companies you're matched with can see it.

Which worktop is best for a busy family kitchen?

Quartz and porcelain are the usual answers — both resist stains and scratches, and neither needs sealing. Granite handles heat best. Wood is warmest but needs oiling. Laminate is the sensible budget choice.
